ENGL 1102 Midterm

     Part One
     Dear Cody,
I am in English 1102 this semester and it is surprisingly not as bad as i thought it would be. I have learned  more then i thought i would as well. Probably the biggest thing i have learned this semester was what it means to "inquire". Making inquires about something is trying to find everything out about the subject that you can. So for example, say you read a newspaper article; what did you inquire from reading that, or what did you learn about that article? Something else i learned this semester is what a claim is and how to make a claim. A claim is pretty much a statement but it needs evidence to back it up. I also found out how to cite a source with out using easy bib, and its not that hard to do either. I feel like it is very important to know how to inquire things from reading or pretty much anything really. The more you inquire from something the more your going to know about it and maybe it will be useful to you someday down the road. Making claims about something happens everyday, so its very useful that i learned more about that topic. But on the other hand, i feel like i will never need to cite a source outside of scholar years, but it's going to be very helpful to know how to for the next three years that i'm still in school. Overall, i have learned a lot more then i thought i would ever learn in half a semester, and there is still another half to go

                                                    See ya soon,

  Part Two
I'm choosing to write about my Annotated Bibliography, which i did on the topic of steroids and how they are unhealthy and healthy for you as well. I chose to write my bibliography on this topic because being an athlete myself, you often think about how much better you can preform if you were taking the muscle enhancers. There is always a professional athlete on the news about how he got caught for using the drugs and  all this other drama about them, but growing up in a sporting environment, i would look up to them and figured to become the best of the best i would have to get on the "juice". But that's not the case at all, and after doing the research i did, i'm so thankful i never used the drugs. The thing that really made me want to write about this topic came from watching ESPN and hearing about a baseball player using the drugs. After hearing that I automatically knew what i wanted to research. I feel like the audience of my paper is really to everyone but can be focused to just send a message to athletes, teenager athletes. It seems as if it mainly is to teen athletes because that is the time in there life where they have to prove something to the college scouts so they can maybe go play ball for them and possibly professionally later on down the road. I tried to include as meany articles that talked about the side effects of steroids and how they can effect teenagers because i felt like that is who steroids are impacting the most in today's society. Overall, this piece of writing was not that bad, it definitely was not as bad as i thought it would be. I think it came easy for me because i found out how interested i was in the topic and really just wanted to learn more and more. The only revisions i really made were to just but the citations in alphabetical order and correct some small errors, grammatical errors. Something that really affected my writing was reading of all the side effects of taking the drugs. I included something about the effects in almost every citation i made. I learned so much from researching this topic and  i'm glad i chose that topic. I found out how bad steroids really are for your body and i also found out how they can benefit ones body as well. I also found out how easy it is to write about something you are very interested in and how it just seems to flow more naturally. I expect the readers of my paper to inquire from information how steroids are really bad for your body and they should never try them because it is not worth the effects. Something i'm going to change about my most recent piece and my portfolio piece, is i'm going to add another citation. something to give a little more information on how steroids can be used to benefit the body. Other then that i feel like my paper is in pretty good shape and i'm happy with the way it turned out.

   Part Three
I liked the book Peace, Butter, and Jelly. It made me aware of some things and it made me think about life as well. In my opinion, you should keep the book on the reading list for your next semester. But maybe have David come visit the class more then once, meeting him and listening to what all he said was helpful and i enjoyed it.

 Part Four
  The first half went well
I can't wait until part two
  Here is the home stretch!
